M&M Mondays #005: Choosing Your Lane & An Abundance Mindset

Listen to the audio version here. It’s actually me talking to ya.

📎 Marketing ➔ Choose Your Lane

Hey Siri, set a reminder to post on Instagram at 10am. Oh… Hey Siri, set another reminder to post on TikTok at noon. Also, Siri..? Can you set a recurring reminder every evening at 9pm to not relax and keep working on making more content for who knows what, to post who knows where?? great.  - It’s an exciting life these days, isn’t it?

There is major pressure and confusion around being active on social media platforms. This is overwhelming for solopreneurs because you feel this need to have to be everywhere at all times and don’t have much of a team to help.

I encourage you to choose your lane and master it. Now admittedly, I have (and have continued to) struggle with this only because a new platform can seem exciting in some ways. “oh!! Tiktok is gonna be it for me!”… Well based on what? Some GaryVee post saying that it’s basically raining free money over there?? I suggest a more calculated approach.

Here’s the problem with trying to post content everywhere online:

👉 You could inadvertently dilute your message (ask me how I know…)

👉 You’ll eventually get burnt out and stop creating, posting, and engaging with others on the platform

👉 It quickly becomes hard to maintain a consistent output of quality posts

If you have too much time on your hands and enjoy flopping around aimlessly, then disregard everything. Otherwise, choose your lane and focus on it. But which lane should I pick Evan? There are two major considerations when picking the right social media platform for your brand.

☝️ Where do your ideal customers hang out online? What feed do they enjoy scrolling the most?

✌️ Which platform do you enjoy the most?

Action Item ➔  Start by looking at social media platform demographics and see where your best customers usually spend their time. Once you’ve narrowed it down to the top two or three platforms, pick the one you enjoy the most! This will increase your chances of sticking with it.

For me… I’ve chosen to focus on Instagram more than anything else. Yes, I’m on LinkedIn, Youtube, and others but I am working on steering folks from those places toward my Instagram channel. I don’t have it dialed, so I share this advice as I actively implement it myself.

🧠 Mindset ➔ An Abundance Mindset

We can look at life through one of two lenses.

We can live in a mental state of Scarcity or Abundance.

This is a continual brain and heart practice that requires us to tap into the intangible essence of who we are becoming over time based on how we behave today.

Learning to let go of things, allows more to flow into our lives.

When we cling on so tight, it becomes hard to maintain not only what we currently have, but also the opportunity for things to grow and flourish.

This applies in areas like:

💰Our Finances

  • It’s hard to grow wealth when one only focuses and prioritizes not losing it.

❤️ Our Love Life

  • A butterfly will die in your hands if you squeeze too tight. however, it’ll remain in your palm as long as you keep your hand open (a new spin on the butterfly effect)

  • It is not until a person is free to go, that they may choose to stay

  • Jealousy and overprotecting behavior patterns are manifestations of a scarcity mindset

🙌 Our Opportunities

  • When living with a scarcity mindset, one will not be willing to risk losing an opportunity and therefore will likely never put themselves in a place where new opportunities are found.

🤗 Our Friendships

  • When one holds onto a friendship too tight, it can choke out the flame over time - especially when it comes from a fear of losing them. That relationship will struggle to flourish.

It kind of boils down to whether you are living from a place of love or a place of fear.

Our external circumstances can play a role in who we are and how we behave, but the ultimate outcome of who we are to become lives inside the mind and essence of who we are.

Where is your mindset rooted? How will this aid you in pursuing your best life?

Chasing abundance is an ongoing effort and I encourage you toward it.

Until next time ✌️

Evan
