M&M #007: Tell 'Em & Being Vulnerable
Listen to the audio version here. It’s actually me talking to ya.
📢 Marketing ➔ Tell ‘Em
Struggling with a less than ideal conversion rate?
There may be a really simple fix for that.
But first, which of the following describes you?
😞 Your website gets good traffic, yet few people are buying your product.
😞 Your free ebook is getting lots of downloads, yet nobody signs up for an intro call.
😞 Your email list is growing, but your click rate is pretty sad.
😞 Your posts gets a lot of impressions, it’s a ghost town in the comment section.
It’s a really sucky feeling.
It’s deflating.
It makes you question your pricing, your offers, and even your career choice at times.
The first thing you might want to check is your CTA - Call To Action.
CTA’s are everywhere! Off the top of my head…
“Order Here” signs at the deli
Buc-ee's gas station billboards, “turn in 2 exits”
The sunrise, “Time to wake up and live!”
Do you recognize these buttons?
With an average of 18.5 orders per second (1,598,400 orders made daily), Amazon has optimized every corner of its site including the buy buttons.
What’s one thing that makes successful businesses like Amazon so successful?
They’re great at telling people what to do next.
If you don’t tell people what to do next, then you’ll forever struggle with conversions.
Here are some simple, yet effective CTA’s you could try…
Top performing CTA’s:
👉 Start Now
👉 Join Today
👉 Click to Begin
👉 Try it Out
👉 Get Started
👉 Grab Your Seat
👉 Claim Your Spot
👉 Instant Checkout
Action Item - Study your emails, content, site, etc… and assess where your conversions are low. What is your CTA? Is it weak, misplaced, or hard to find? Does it reflect what people ought to do next? Tweak, experiment, and most importantly… Tell ‘em what to do next!
Notice how I included an action item? That’s a CTA.
After all, if you don’t tell ‘em… Don’t expect much to happen.
😟 Mindset ➔ Being Vulnerable
Remember the famous catch-22, “You need a job to get experience, but you need experience to get a job”?
I was so frustrated by this unofficial fact in my 20’s because it felt like I was trapped in a hole I couldn’t get out of unless I got super lucky.
For myself and many others, we struggle to stay confident in ourselves when carving out a new career path.
Common questions we ask ourselves:
😟 How do I get new clients with no portfolio?
😟 How can I build an audience without a crazy success story?
😟 How do I stand out when I’m the newbie?
No matter who you are, no matter what you do, no matter where you’re trying to go in life - standing out among the crowd is tough! But there is one thing that only you have….
Your secret weapon that nobody else has is… YOU!
Your insights, your experiences, and your message to the world are entirely unique to you - nobody else can replicate it the way you can. Here’s the trick…
👉 Use your vulnerabilities or weaknesses as an asset, not a liability.
While we, as consumers, still enjoy aesthetics and feel safer purchasing from a trustworthy and proven seller, we also feel more understood when seeing the raw and unfiltered side of those we connect with.
We need to spend some time and self-reflection and come to terms with our own insecurities, weaknesses, and what makes us feel vulnerable.
Just like we all have fingers and toes with unique designs imprinted on our skin, no two fingerprints are the same.
One of my favorite sayings I used to harp on when I lead a group of high school teenagers at my church for a few years was…
👉 You are special. But you are not a special case.
👉 You are never too broken to not be valuable.
👉 You are never too successful not to empathize with others.
In my journey as a solopreneur, I’m leaning into this hard.
Instead of trying to convince everyone I’m an expert at x,y,x….
I proudly claim to be an explorer - a student of the craft - and along the way, I’ll continue to create content and offers that package my growing log of skills and stories to build an audience and monetize my efforts.
See how powerful that little shift can be?
Go be special.
Go be vulnerable.
Go be you.
I’ll see you out there.
Until next time ✌️
