M&M #006: Squeeze the Orange & Consume Less, Create Often

Listen to the audio version here. It’s actually me talking to ya.

🍊 Marketing ➔ Squeeze The Orange

Ever made orange juice?

It’s a simple process.

Step 1: cut open the orange

Step 2: Squeeze the orange for all it’s worth

Step 3: Enjoy the fruits of your labor 🥤

But how many oranges do you need to carry out the task of quenching your thirst? As many as it takes - depends how hard ya squeeze (andddd... that’s what she said).

The same is true with your content.

How many pieces of content do you need to publish in order to see results that are helping you reach your goals? Most likely, not enough.

Or maybe you are producing enough content but not re-purposing it methodically. I’ll drop a bomb of a link from one of my new favorite content dudes, Alex Hormozi.

👉 This video basically spills all the beans of one great way to turn a simple thought into dozens of pieces of content, if not more. His method is awesome and I plan on using more of this in my own content production strategy.

Nonetheless, for the past year, I’ve been using a very simple method to ensure that there’s always something available for me to post. And since you’re here - why not share a piece of it?!

Evan’s Simple Content Production framework…

1) Long-Form Content: Podcast, “Which Way Now?!”

2) Short-Form Content: IG ReelsYouTube Shorts, & TikToks

3) Quotes & Soundbites: Twitter & Instagram

Usually from any podcast episode I do, I can scrape up at least 5 solid highlight clips to chop up and format for the short form content. And then it becomes really easy to take the best one-liner and shape it up for Twitter or Instagram.

Sometimes I’ll even just screenshot the tweet, crop it, and post it as a 3-second IG reel.

Point is… You can always squeeze more juice out of the orange.

☝️ Another pro tip… Recycle, reuse, and re-post the content that gets the best engagement - clearly, it worked well in the past! This is not uncommon and is actually advised by many of the best content creators out there.

Once you know your target audience and where they hang out online then it’s time to…

Action Item ➡️ Determine what long-form content you can consistently create. Is it a podcast? Books or blogs? Youtube videos? If you don’t have any of these, then pick something to begin with. If you do, stay consistent with it and begin to repurpose segments for use on another platform.

🎨 Mindset ➔ Consume Less, Create Often

Gary Vee doesn’t want you watching all of his stuff for years on end with no change in your behavior. He admittedly repeats himself in different ways to help drive home the point of his message.

There’s a difference between taking in content for the sake of collecting insights on trends or what’s working and what’s not, versus excusing your lack of creation in the name of ‘research’.

Over-consumption is a disease that plagues everyone - not just solopreneurs.

And what it can lead to are heightened feelings of self-image issues like imposter syndrome, analysis paralysis, and more.

President Theodore Roosevelt famously stated that,
“Comparison is the thief of joy”.

When consuming too much content, we inadvertently begin to compare our insanely harsh self-analysis to the media giants of the world. How the hell do you expect to come out of that unscathed?

You won’t. And I never do either.

In the end, like most things, it’s a game of moderation.

For people like you and I, we’re trying to build something here. We want to live out our dreams and do it on our own terms via the noble path of solopreneurship, entrepreneurship, or intrapreneurship.

You have so much to share with the world.

Whether it be an interesting tweet or a revolutionary new product…

Do yourself and everyone else the favor of creating and sharing something today (or tomorrow if you’re enjoying your Labor Day weekend 🙂).

Until next time ✌️

Evan
